Room Detail No place on earth is farther from the world's cares than Caneel Bay, where clear sapphire waters kiss the golden sands of seven beaches, and native plants cover the hills in riotous color. The resort remains true to Laurance Rockefeller's original vision of simple splendor in a natural setting almost untouched by human hands. Ideally situated on a 170-acre peninsula surrounded by the flawless beauty of the Virgin Islands National Park, Caneel Bay is a leisurely 35-minute boat ride from the St. Thomas airport. Each of the resort's 166 guest rooms is unique with handcrafted furniture and richly woven fabrics. The resort features three restaurants and such leisure activities as watersports, tennis, shopping, sunset cruises, massages, hiking and island tours. Children are entertained at Turtle Town while adults restore mind and body balance at the new Self Centre. Free from telephones, televisions and other modern day distractions, those at Caneel Bay will find true escape from our technology driven world.
Situated on a 170-acre peninsula surrounded by the beauty of the Virgin Island National Park and seven pristine beaches, Caneel Bay is on St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This tiny island is only accessible by boat or ferry.

Beach:

Each of the beaches is defined by its own unique personality. Honeymoon is the only "uninhabited" beach, free of resort accommodation. Caneel and Little Caneel are popular with families thanks to their gentle waters and abundant water sport activities. Paradise and Scott are known as the "peace and quiet" beaches and are famed for their glorious sunsets. Turtle Bay is an intimate cove with gentle breezes and picturesque island vistas. And Hawksnest, known as the "wild beach", is preferred by those seeking a golden sunrise and the lull of gentle surf.

* The Wine Room: The Wine Room, located within the walls of an 18th-century plantation house, seats up to 10 for private dinners. A prix-fixe, seven-course menu, carefully selected to highlight selections from Caneel's wine collection, is offered. The Caribbean's only fully operational, temperature-controlled wine room boasts over 1,000 bottles of wine. Open for dinner all week in winter and four nights in fall, spring and summer. * Equator Restaurant: At the Equator, every evening is celebrated with passionate flair. The restaurant overlooks all of Caneel Bay with the dramatic lights of St. Thomas in the distance. * Caneel Beach Terrace: Sumptuous lunch buffets are available at the Caneel Beach Terrace. This open-air dining room located just a few steps from the Caneel Bay shoreline, is also a popular spot for the weekly Grand Buffet. All meals feature the finest cuisine prepared with health and fitness in mind.

* Attire: Caneel is renowned for its blend of elegance and informality. Gentlemen are asked to wear collared shirts, slacks and closed-in shoes after sunset when dining at Turtle Bay Estate House during winter (jackets are customary, but not required). Ladies will feel comfortable in evening resort attire. During spring, summer and fall, dress Bermuda shorts and closed-in shoes or dress sandals are acceptable for gentlemen dining at The Equator or Caneel Terrace. Slacks are required at Turtle Bay Estate House. Throughout the year, guests should wear a shirt, wrap or cover-up over bathing suits in select public places during the day.

All guestrooms include sitting area, fully stocked refrigerator/mini-bar, in-room safe, individually controlled A/C and ceiling fan, alarm clocks, bathrobes and slippers, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, and umbrella. Most rooms are not equipped with bathtubs. There are no telephones or televisions in the individual guestrooms.
* COURTSIDE: Located near the tennis courts and fitness center, these rooms offer views of lush tropical greenery and are a short walk to the beach.
